By establishing the Department of Innovation and Innovative Funding, which is unique in Germany, our University takes account of the fact that even educational institutions are increasingly faced with chances and risks. Its duties include searching for innovative potential at the University as well as proactively identifying developments that can be matched with our University's strengths. This responsibility can be seen as a cross-functional task.
The Vice-President supports framework conditions that advance innovations at our University. On the one hand, these include the freedoms required by the people actively involved, an open communication culture that also enables lively discussions, the willingness to cooperate as well as an appropriate tuition and work environment; but on the other hand, they require external impulses.
Universities are based on a partially competitive system. The emergence of private educational institutions is likely to reinforce this competition. However, state-funding has become more unrealiable, which is why there are plans to find new fund-raising possibilities. To achieve this goal, our University must continue to work on its unique profile. Our Vice-President is committed to working towards this objective, too.

- Establishing a graduate institute
- Identifying the role played by our University as "regional innovation engine"
- Establishing a scholarship culture (Scholarship Programme of the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia) as well as a fund-raising and alumni concept
